    IMPORTANT NOTE! Registration for this course is not taken through Orono Community Education. This driver discount program is a state-approved accident prevention/insurance discount course that is open to the public. Pre-registration is required. This class is taught by a MN Highway Safety & Research Center certified instructor. By utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, participants will be provided the latest information in regard to driver and traffic safety, new laws, and vehicle technology. Persons ages 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. First time participants must complete the initial four hours of training and a four-hour refresher class every three years to maintain the 10% discount.

    A Tex Mex Fiesta

    We’ll begin with empanadas, pastries filled with beef, tomatoes, potatoes, and herbs. flautas are next, with chicken in a jalapeno/garlic paste and fried crisp in a corn tortillas. We’ll then prepare authentic Mexican rice with onions, garlic, tomatoes, and fresh cilantro along with Mexican style corn prepared with lime aioli, cayenne pepper, and cotija cheese. Fajitas follow with tender strips of marinated beef and chicken, with fresh sautéed bell peppers and onions wrapped in a warm tortilla shell. We’ll finish this fiesta with a Yucatan-style delight, fresh coconut blended with rich custard in a wonderful nutty crust, baked to a caramelly brown, and served with crème fraȋche. All ingredients and supplies for this class are included in the registration fee.

    ACT College Examination Preparatory Course

    Advantage Educational Programs gives students the option of preparing for the ACT exam in two different ways: in-person or online. Both courses are designed for students who want to maximize their ACT exam score, as well as those who feel uneasy about their test-taking skills, or those who have taken the exam and aren’t satisfied with their results. The course includes diagnostic testing, instruction in time management, overcoming test anxiety, science reasoning, English strategies and review, essay writing, reading comprehension, math strategies, and review. Please bring notebook paper, pencils, calculator and a small 3-ring binder or folder to class. Students enrolled in these classes not only benefit from personal instruction provided by our experienced instructors, but also have free access to our online course.     ACT College Examination Preparatory Course - Live Virtual Class

    This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend an in-person class, but still prefers the interaction with an instructor. The live virtual ACT prep course is the same as the in-person ACT course, but from the comfort of your own home. Our instructors teach live via Zoom and are available to answer questions if needed. You will need an internet connection and a computer/tablet/smart phone. Instruction for all areas tested will be provided with focal points on diagnostic testing, science reasoning, math review and strategies, reading comprehension improvement, English strategies, writing essays, overcoming test anxiety and time management.     Join Skyhawks for exciting, action-packed basketball scrimmages! If your child thrives on the excitement of real games, this is the ideal program. Instead of focusing solely on drills, our scrimmage-based format lets kids dive straight into gameplay, building teamwork, quick decision-making, and strategy on the court. We combine fun with personal growth. Each session enhances basketball skills, and teaches valuable life lessons like leadership, sportsmanship, and perseverance.

    Basketball Camp

    This fun, skill-intensive program is designed for beginning to intermediate players. Work on passing, shooting, dribbling, and rebounding. This is one of our most popular programs! Bring a water bottle and wear athletic clothing.
  • Beginner Stained Glass Window

    Create a beautiful stained glass window approximately 8” x 10” in size. This class is for both beginner and experienced stained glass participants! The copper foil technique will be taught from cutting to assembly. The first night focuses on choosing a pattern and discussing colors of glass, equipment and layout. The other sessions will focus on assembling your stained glass window. Glass and materials are purchased directly from the instructor at class - approximately $65. Tool kits are provided. Please bring safety glasses to use while cutting and grinding glass. This class includes one free Saturday morning Open Studio visit. Call to register participants ages 14-17 (must attend with an enrolled adult).
  • Bjorn Cycling Trailside Repair

    Many possible issues and problems can occasionally occur when riding. In this class, we will discuss the topics of: flat tires, wheel issues, dropped chains, cleaning and lubing, replacing tires, and what to buy to handle these issues. This class format is a mix of hands on and lecture. Please leave your bikes at home for this class.
  • Bjorn Cycling Tune Up

    Many of your bike issues can be solved in this class! The major focus will be on identification of bicycle parts, trailside repair, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, chain maintenance, how to repair/replace a tube (flat tire), and how to safety check your bike. We will also learn basic wheel truing, replacing a chain, and how to replace brake and shifting cables. Please bring a bike. This class is a great value that includes a tune up!

    Bonus Pilates

    Bonus Pilates is full-body Pilates strength training with a focus on your core. Receive the extra “bonus” using props such as weights, bands, and exercise balls, to strengthen all large muscle groups including your glutes, legs, arms, and shoulders.

    CPR, First Aid & AED

    This blended learning (online learning and in-person skills) session will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. Successful participants will receive a two-year Red Cross certificate for Adult and Pediatric (infant and child) CPR, First Aid and AED. Register at least 10 days prior to the in-person skills date, as time is needed to complete the online learning portion PRIOR to testing in person for the skills. This will allow you the time to complete lessons at your own pace. You will need to provide the instructor with proof of online completion in order to take part in the skills testing. Additional details regarding online learning session will be sent via email. A personal email address is required to receive class content.
