Metro Marlins is open to ages 7 - 18. The Metro Marlins Swim Team is a member team of USA Swimming. The program includes conditioning, stroke technique, dryland training, team-building opportunities, Metro Marlins in-house meets, and swim meets against other Minnesota swim teams. Anyone interested in competitive swimming is invited to try out. Our team is divided into four levels: Red, White, Blue and Silver. All levels are encouraged to join USA Swimming and compete at meets. Swimmers who have not swam with Metro Marlins in the last year, or are new to the program, need to be evaluated for team placement on September 11th & 12th from 6 - 7:30 pm. Final team placement will be based on swimmer's performance.SEASON: September 17 - Early March Practice schedules may be adjusted due to team enrollment numbers.No practice September 27, October 2, 31, November 6, 22, 23, December 24, 25, 31, January 1, 24, 29RED TEAM: Entry level team. The focus of this team is on the fundamentals of all four competitive swim strokes. Swimmers must be able to swim the following without stopping: 25 yards front crawl with side breathing, and 25 yards backstroke. Encouraged but not required to compete in swim meets.Red Team Fee: $272 or 4 payments of $68.Red Team Practice: Monday & Friday 5:30 - 6:30 pmWHITE TEAM: Focus is on proper stroke technique, along with starts and turns. Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of the following: Freestyle, Backstroke, and either Breaststroke or Butterfly in good form. Must be able to do open turns: flip turns are desirable. Must be able to perform a standing dive from the edge of the pool. Required to compete in a minimum of 3 USA Swimming sanctioned events, excludes in-house meetsWhite Team Fee: $407 or 4 payments of $101.75White Team Practice: Monday, Wednesday, Friday 5:30 - 6:45 pm BLUE TEAM: Focus is on providing young swimmers with more stroke, starts, and turn technique; along with endurance needed to succeed as a competitive swimmer. Swimmers must be able to swim 50-100 yards of all four competitive strokes with proper form. Must know racing turns and starts. Required to compete in a minimum of four USA Swimming sanctioned meets, excluding in-house and championship meets.Blue Team Fee: $769 or 4 payments of $192.25 Blue Team Practice: Monday , Wednesday, Friday 6:45 - 8:15 pm Tuesday & Thursday 5:30 - 7 pm SILVER TEAM: This group is for advanced swimmers 13 years or older. The focus for this group is technique and training to be successful and meet the demands of competitive swimming. These swimmers are also expected to be leaders to the rest of the team, displaying good sportsmanship, dedication, responsibility; both in the water and out. Required to compete in USA Swimming sanctioned meets, excluding in-house and championship meets.Silver Team Fee: $819 or 4 payments of $204.75 (If swimmer is also on the High School Swim Team, this rate will be prorated. Additional Fees: A $25 non-refundable deposit fee is due at the time of registration and will be applied towards your first payment. A seasonal USA Swimming fee of $68 is not included in registration fee and is required for those swimming in meets. This fee is payable to Orono Community Education and may be paid separately online.
