Metro Marlins is open to ages 7 - 18.Coaches: Mike Wood & Assistant Coaches The Metro Marlins Swim Team is a member team of USA Swimming. The program includes conditioning, stroke technique, dryland training, team-building opportunities, Metro Marlins in-house meets, and swim meets against other Minnesota swim teams. Anyone interested in competitive swimming is invited to try out. Our team is divided into four levels: Red, White, Blue and Silver. All levels are encouraged to join USA Swimming and compete at meets. Swimmers who have not swam with Metro Marlins in the last year, or are new to the program, need to be evaluated for team placement on April 9th & 11th from 6:30 - 7:30 pm. Final team placement will be based on swimmer's performance.FULL SEASON: April 15 - mid-July SPRING SEASON: April 15 - June 7 SUMMER SEASON: June 7 - mid-JulyNo practice April 19, May 27, June 6, July 4 & 5RED TEAM: Entry level team. The focus of this team is on the fundamentals of all four competitive swim strokes. Swimmers must be able to swim the following without stopping: 25 yards front crawl with side breathing, and 25 yards backstroke. Encouraged but not required to compete in swim meets.Red Team Full Season Fee: $220 or 4 payments of $55. Spring Season only: $120 Summer Season only: $100Red Team Practice: Monday & Wednesday 5 - 6 pmWHITE TEAM: Focus is on proper stroke technique, along with starts and turns. Swimmers must be able to swim 50 yards of the following: Freestyle, Backstroke, and either Breaststroke or Butterfly in good form. Must be able to do open turns: flip turns are desirable. Must be able to perform a standing dive from the edge of the pool. Required to compete in a minimum of 3 USA Swimming sanctioned events, excludes in-house meetsWhite Team Full Season Fee: $300 or 4 payments of $75 Spring Season only: $160 Summer Season only: $140White Team Practice: Monday & Wednesday 5 - 6 pm and Fridays 4 - 5 pmBLUE TEAM: Focus is on providing young swimmers with more stroke, starts, and turn technique; along with endurance needed to succeed as a competitive swimmer. Swimmers must be able to swim 50-100 yards of all four competitive strokes with proper form. Must know racing turns and starts. Additional Fees: A $25 non-refundable deposit fee is due at the time of registration and will be applied towards your first payment. A seasonal USA Swimming fee of $38 is not included in registration fee and is required for those swimming in meets who did not pay in Fall of 2018. This fee is payable to Orono Community Education and may be paid separately online.
