Catriona graduated from the University of Minnesota – Twin Cities in 2021 with a Bachelor of Arts in Music focusing on composition and creative studies. She has been teaching flute lessons independently for over 5 years and is continuing her passion for teaching through Orono Community Education. Catriona’s music journey started at a young age with exposure to multiple genres through music listening, singing, and film. She has played flute since the age of 11, performing in concert bands and wind ensembles ever since. At the age of 13, she started her knack for arranging music by ear while listening to the radio and discovered an interest in composing original music. Upon graduating high school, Catriona established herself as a freelance private flute instructor based in the St. Michael area and she continued to perform throughout college in the UMN Symphonic Band. As a composition student, she had the opportunity to study under the guidance of Dr. Alex Lubet and took part in multiple compositional projects including arranging an original piece of her own, Uncertain Circumstance, for a UMN Composer’s YouTube concert during the Covid-19 pandemic. Currently, Catriona is playing flute with the Hopkins Westwind Concert Band and the Silverwinds Flute Choir along with continuing to teach lessons, study a variety of other instruments, and establish herself as an active composer and arranger. Outside of her involvement with music, you’ll catch Catriona reading, practicing ballet, and spending time with
family and friends.
