  • A Good Time for the Truth: A Reading Group on Race in Minnesota

This reading group will explore the experience of race in Minnesota through the collected stories of black, indigenous, Asian American and Latinx writers in A Good Time for the Truth, edited by local poet Sun Yung Shin and published by the Minnesota Historical Society (2016). Over the course of four engaged conversations, this group aims to honor, understand, and make space for testimonies of the ways race impacts the lives of all Minnesotans. Our goal will be to foster deeper understanding of the many realities and perspectives within our immediate and state-wide communities. We will strive to define what equity and inclusion might look and feel like, and we will brainstorm concrete steps we can take to achieve them. Orono Community Education anticipates that conversations about A Good Time for the Truth may inspire further community-led actions and opportunities to deepen learning about cultural equity, so input for fall 2021 programming is welcome.
