Acupuncture involves the utilization of tiny needles, which can be incredibly effective in providing relief to a whole host of issues. Acupuncture is also a big part of traditional Chinese medicine. Most people know very little about this scientifically-proven ancient medical practice that dates back 5,000 years! That’s why we’re diving into acupuncture, what it is, what it’s used for and what are the many different ways it can help you. There will be demos of acupuncture and cupping. You will also learn easy-to-use acupressure points for self-healing at home.

  • BARRE Fitness

    BARRE Fitness is a total body conditioning program that blends classical ballet exercises with Pilates, yoga and strength movements. Burn fat and increase lean muscle mass with this low-impact form of exercise. We will use the ballet barre as well as center work to perform a variety of exercises to target multiple muscles with each movement. This class will provide results quickly, improving muscular strength and stability, endurance, flexibility and balance. Please bring 2-3 lb dumbbells and a mat to class.
  • Basic Dog Obedience

    A basic obedience class for dogs 8 months of age and older. This training class offers an introduction to controlled leash walking, sit, down, wait at doorways, come when called and introduction of “Go to Mat.” Commands are taught in a fun, pet-friendly manner and gently enforced to ensure reliable performance. Dogs must be current on Distemper, Parvovirus, Bordetella and Rabies vaccines.
  • Beginner Stained Glass Window

    Create a beautiful stained glass window approximately 8”x10” in size. This class is for both beginner and experienced stained glass participants! The copper foil technique will be taught, from cutting to assembly. The first night focuses on choosing a pattern (calla lily or sailboat) and discussing colors of glass, equipment and layout. Glass is purchased directly from the instructor at class (approx. $25-$50). Tool kits are provided. This class includes one Saturday morning Open Studio visit.
  • Beginner Yoga

    Come get your “Om” on! This will be a safe introduction to poses and moves for those new to yoga. We will concentrate on proper technique and safe positioning while adding flow and movement to our moves. Yoga strengthens, stretches and improves balance all at once. This class is geared toward beginners, but anyone looking for a purposeful yoga experience can join.
  • Bonus Pilates

    Full body Pilates strength training with a focus on your core. Receive the extra "bonus" using prop work with weights, bands and exercise balls to strengthen all large muscle groups including your glutes, legs, arms and shoulders. 
  • CPR, First Aid & AED

    Learn how to recognize and respond to first aid, cardiac and breathing emergencies through hands-on training. You’ll gain the knowledge and skills necessary to give immediate care to an injured or ill person and decide whether advanced medical care is needed. Red Cross certification will be offered. Participants must be able to demonstrate skills competently and pass a written evaluation in order to be certified. Please let the instructor know if any special accommodations are required for the written exam. One-night class option available for participants needing only CPR or only First Aid.   • Cardio Yoga

    During this one-hour cardio yoga class, we will add aerobic and strength building exercises to our poses all while lengthening and strengthening our muscles. Each class will finish with a relaxing savasana. Leave feeling good about the time you gave to your health. Previous yoga experience preferred. Bring a mat and water.
  • Chicken en Croute

    We start with a classic Caesar salad using fresh baked croutons, Romano cheese and sweet cherry tomatoes. You’ll assemble the entree wrapping tender breast of chicken in flaky puff pastry with shallots and portobello mushrooms. Together we’ll prepare an amazing sauce using sweet port wine. Sides will include asparagus with olive oil and fresh squeezed lemon along with a delicious Jasmine rice blend using toasted almonds and dried cranberries. We will finish with chocolate decadence, a rich flourless chocolate torte served with an exquisite raspberry coulis and fresh whipped cream.

    Planning to travel in China, fascinated by Chinese culture, or have an interest in establishing businesses connecting with China? In this introductory class, you will learn the basics of speaking, reading, writing and typing in Chinese. By the final class you will understand the Chinese alphabet, 5 tones and the structure and component of Chinese characters. Impress your family and friends by speaking a few basic phrases, key words, songs and rhymes. Immerse yourself in Chinese culture as we learn all about the 4 major Chinese holidays: Chinese New Year, Lantern Festival, Dragon Boat Festival and Moon Festival. 
  • Clay Open Studio

    Have you taken a pottery class and are looking for more time to explore your passion with clay? Are you an advanced student looking to work in a fun, friendly environment? Open Studio is a place where you can practice new skills and work independently on projects of your choice. All skill levels welcome, but a beginner class or prior experience is recommended. $25 per bag of clay is payable in class, which includes glazing and firing fees.

This presentation introduces strategies on how parents can preserve their retirement savings, guide their students toward making smart college selection decisions and start their students on the right foot by learning wise money habits early and balancing the weight of educational debt.   • Core Blast 60

    Prepare to sweat in this one hour class that combines timed cardio bursts with exercises that will strengthen your core muscles, as well as your glutes, quads, hamstrings, low back and more. Most of the exercises will use your own body weight, but equipment may also include: dumbbells, resistance bands, ab roller, BOSU, stability ball, medicine ball and jump ropes. The last 15 minutes of class will be spent on the mat doing concentrated core work and stretching. Challenge yourself to improve your overall strength, balance and coordination. It is your hour, your well-being. Bring a towel, water bottle, mat and great attitude. Low impact options included. All fitness levels are welcome.

    Feed your mind, body and soul with this fun dance-based cardio class! Burn calories and tone muscles, while you move to pop and world-inspired music for 45 minutes. Then finish off strong with 15 minutes of abdominal exercises and stretches to strengthen your core. Get moving and be energized! Bring a towel, water bottle, mat and great attitude! Low impact options included. All fitness levels welcome.
  • Experience Dyslexia: A Learning Difference Simulation

    It is one thing to read about learning and attention issues. It is another thing to see them through your child’s eyes. Experience firsthand how frustrating it is when your hand won’t write what your brain is telling it to, or how hard it is to complete a simple task when you have trouble focusing. Experience Dyslexia is a hands-on experience, designed to increase awareness of the difficulties and frustrations that people with dyslexia (and other learning differences) encounter daily. The simulation provides a lively, thought-provoking experience for teachers, parents and anyone interested in better understanding the challenges experienced by those with dyslexia. Participants rotate among six learning stations that simulate various language-related tasks similar to those encountered in the classroom. These include two reading, two writing and two listening activities. A similar simulation was held in Orono this past spring with a great turnout and impact from those who attended.

  • Full Body Stretch

    Regular stretching improves flexibility, increases circulation and range of motion and can lessen or alleviate pain. This class will help you maintain your ability to do the daily activities you enjoy and may even enable you to take back movements and actions you thought were lost! All stretch moves will be done safely and with modifications as needed. This class is geared toward adults ages 55 and older, but anyone is welcome to join! Bring an exercise mat to class.
