    Beginner Ladies Golf

    This program is structured for ladies who want to understand the overall mechanics of the golf swing. You will learn the full swing as well as the short game (chipping, pitching and putting). The main goal of this program is to have fun and be able to manage yourself around the golf course. Range balls are included and clubs are available if needed. There will be a chance to play on the course on the last night. Please dress for the weather. Registration Deadline: May 16th for the June session and June 20 for the July session. Weather Policy - In the event of severe weather, the class will be made up if possible.

    This is full body Pilates strength training with a focus on your core. Receive the extra "bonus" using prop work with weights, bands and exercise balls to strengthen all large muscle groups including your glutes, legs, arms and shoulders.

    Canva is the perfect digital tool for beginners and novices! In this class you will learn how to create designs from scratch or use templates with step-by-step guidance for any digital image you need. This class is taught live online via ZOOM. If you are unable to attend the live online training time, you can still register and watch the recording of the training at your convenience. Follow-up support is also included.

    Ever wonder where to begin when planning your charcuterie board? What to buy, how to cut, prepare or arrange your items and how to make that cool salami rose? Learn all of the basics in techniques, food pairings and educational background on the foods used. Have fun with family and friends during class at a local venue, the Iron Exchange in Maple Plain. Due to table space, food is available for purchase before or after class. However, beverages are available at anytime. A link to pay the ingredients fee of $45 will be sent via email one week prior to class. Bring home a new experience, a helpful grocery list for future boards PLUS an artfully arranged 10” charcuterie board (serves 5-6 people) to enjoy right away! *Due to cost of high-quality ingredients, any cancellations or no shows after the three business day cancellation policy, will still be responsible to pay the supply fee of $45. You are welcome to pick up your supplies at the Iron Exchange (pickup within 24 hours) if interested in completing a charcuterie board on your own.

    Cooking for College and Beyond!

    Learn all of the essential cooking basics before heading to college or off on your own! Chef Noah will teach you how to prep, cook and store some simple and delicious meals. He will also talk about key ingredients and tools to store at your dorm/apartment/condo. Parents and caregivers, this is a GREAT opportunity for your soon-to-be, independent cook!
  • Fitness Punch Card

    Purchase a Fitness Punch Card and drop into any adult fitness class on your time and your schedule. This is the perfect option if you cannot commit to a full class or want to try multiple different types of classes. Punch cards are valid for 6 months. Purchase another card if you run out of punches! Punch cards are kept in the Activities Center Fitness Room (30 & 31). The punch card is NOT VALID for pickleball classes, aquatics programs, virtual classes, private lessons or open gyms. Senior and Activities Center Membership discounts can not be applied toward a Punch Card purchase. Please contact our office at 952-449-8350 to confirm that a class has enough enrollments to run before dropping in for the first time.

    Fused Glass Open Studio provides time and space to create fused glass projects for beginner and advanced participants. A facilitator will be on hand for advice and support. A $25 supply fee will be collected at the studio for each new punch card. Participants are asked to bring their own glass (COE90-preferred), cutting tools and molds (sharing of materials is also an option). It is recommended that participants have taken at least one fused glass class before joining Open Studio. Punch cards have 8 punches and are valid for 12 months.

In just a few hours, you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it. This course will teach basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM, you will be able to sit at home with your guitar and take this class without any pressure at all. The class includes an online book, online follow-up video lessons and a recording of the class so you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional online question and answer session is also included. Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to form the three main types of chords, how to tune your guitar, basic strumming patterns, how to buy a good guitar (things to avoid) and how to play along with simple tunes. Participants ages 13-17 must have an adult guardian present during the virtual lesson.

Since this class is being held online with ZOOM, you will be able to sit at your piano or keyboard at home and take this course with no pressure at all. This course includes an online book and follow up video lessons so you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional question and answer session and a recording of the class is included as well. The course is part lecture/demonstration and part hands-on instruction. Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it, how to form the three main types of chords, how to handle different keys and time signatures, how to avoid “counting” and how to simplify over 12,000 complex chords. Participants ages 13-17 must have an adult guardian present.

    Intermediate Ladies Golf

    This series is structured for women who have completed the Beginner Ladies Series or feel their game is ready for the next level of instruction. Our vision in this series is to focus on correct fundamentals. Emphasis will be on grip, stance and posture and how it relates to overall ball striking. Full swing and short game (chipping, pitching and putting) will be covered. Range balls are included, clubs are available if needed. The colored cord comes in a wide variety of colors. A natural wooden ring is used to secure the hanger and can fit a wide variety of pot sizes.

  • Pickleball Advanced Play

    If you’re looking for a higher level of pickleball competition, this group is for you! The drilling in this program will be minimal with some focus on the 3rd shot drop or the advantages of stacking. The majority of the time will be used for competitive play. An instructor will be present for court rotations, filling in for match play, answering any questions and providing helpful hints upon request. This group is more competitive, but still fun! You will need to determine your skill rating upon enrolling into this program. This program will accommodate skill ratings of 4.0 and higher. Please visit USA Pickleball to best match a skill rating to your level of play. There will be monthly sessions of Advanced play. Each session will be 4 weeks long. Please register online to reserve a spot for each month. You may register for multiple months at one time. There is not a drop in opportunity for these sessions. *Orono Activities Center membership discounts do not apply for this program.

    Whether you are just starting out or looking to further your pickleball play, Paul can customize a plan to improve your game at all levels. For group lessons, each player from the group must register individually. Please register online to add your name to the waitlist. Once all players from the group have registered, we will connect you with Paul, the instructor, to coordinate a date/time that works for all. You will be charged for the lesson after it has been scheduled. If you are a "No Show" for a scheduled lesson, you are still responsible for the fee. Lessons can be scheduled outdoors at the Orono Intermediate School courts in late Spring. Locations may change due to weather and maintenance schedules.   • Pickleball Skills & Drills - Intermediate

    If you’ve progressed past the beginner level of pickleball and are looking to learn more about the game, this class is for you. In each session, we will focus on one skill set and then implement it into our games. The sessions will open with a warm-up, a description of the “shot of the day” and then a series of drills to practice that shot. Then we will spend time practicing your new and improved shot in live play!
