Orono Community Education

This course is an excellent alternative for any student unable to attend an in-person class, but still prefers the interaction with an instructor. The live virtual ACT prep course is the same as the in-person ACT course, but from the comfort of your own home. Our instructors teach live via Zoom and are available to answer questions if needed. You will need an internet connection and a computer/tablet/smart phone. Instruction for all areas tested will be provided with focal points on diagnostic testing, science reasoning, math review and strategies, reading comprehension improvement, English strategies, writing essays, overcoming test anxiety and time management. Please have notebook paper, pencils and a calculator available. Once enrolled, students are sent a link via email for their class. Register for the self-paced online course and have access and complete preparation for the ACT at your own pace. Register for this section through May 31, 2024. Learn basic bike set up, identification, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, how to safely check your bike, preparing a bike for selling, as well as many other helpful tips and tricks. Time will be available to fix many of the mechanical issues you are facing. Please bring your bike to class. Great value when you factor in a basic tune up!

Draw and print your own tote bag. This course is designed to get you acquainted with the basics of block printing. Create a drawing and then learn how to transfer and carve the drawing into a lino block. Use printing ink to print the design onto your tote bag, making it completely custom. Leave with new skills in this awesome art medium AND with your carved block to recreate your design over and over again at home! The tote bag and lino block supplies are included in your enrollment fee. Call to register participants ages 14-17 (must attend with an enrolled adult).

This blended learning (online learning and in-person skills) session will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing and first aid emergencies. Successful participants will receive a 2-year Red Cross certificate for Adult and Pediatric (infant and child) CPR, First Aid and AED. Register at least 10 days prior to the in-person skills date, as adequate time is needed to complete the online learning portion PRIOR to testing for the skills. This will allow you the time to complete lessons at your own pace. You will need to provide the instructor with proof of online completion in order to take part in the skills testing. Online learning details will be sent via email. A personal email address is required to receive class content. A work-affiliated email address will not work. Purchase a Fitness Punch Card and drop into any adult fitness class on your time and your schedule. This is the perfect option if you cannot commit to a full class or want to try multiple different types of classes. Punch cards are valid for 6 months. Purchase another card if you run out of punches! Punch cards are kept in the Activities Center Fitness Room (30 & 31). The punch card is NOT VALID for pickleball classes, aquatics programs, virtual classes, private lessons or open gyms. Senior and Activities Center Membership discounts can not be applied toward a Punch Card purchase. Please contact our office at 952-449-8350 to confirm that a class has enough enrollments to run before dropping in for the first time.

Following this workshop, families will have a sense of confidence about the next steps for their student after their admissions decision. Families will learn how to support their child through the transition from high school to college, practice self care (families and students) and navigate the language of college. This is a great opportunity to build a support network with fellow families of future first-year college students.

Fused Glass Open Studio provides time and space to create fused glass projects for beginner and advanced participants. A facilitator will be on hand for advice and support. A $25 supply fee will be collected at the studio for each new punch card. Participants are asked to bring their own glass (COE90-preferred), cutting tools and molds (sharing of materials is also an option). It is recommended that participants have taken at least one fused glass class before joining Open Studio. Punch cards have 8 punches and are valid for 12 months.

Have you filled all the open areas of your home with beautiful house plants and need to start moving up?! Create a beautiful, simple chroma plant hanger! The natural cord used for the majority of the hanger is a quality cord with great texture. You can customize the hanger by adding one or two colors to the top and bottom knots. The colored cord comes in a wide variety of colors. A natural wooden ring is used to secure the hanger and can fit a wide variety of pot sizes.

U.S. Masters Swimming is a national membership-oriented nonprofit that provides membership benefits to swimmers across the country. Self-led with swim workouts available upon request.
