  • Supporting Our Spartans: A Virtual Mental Health Series for Parents & Caregivers

    Orono Community Education and Orono Healthy Youth present: Supporting our Spartans: A Virtual Mental Health Series for Parents and Caregivers Attend one, two or all three parts. This series is offered for free, however, there is a $5 suggested donation for each session. Register for each session separately. Zoom links will be sent the week of the class to those that register. Intro to Emotional Wellness Thursday June 24 from 6 - 7pm via Zoom Intro to Emotional Wellness will encompass the different areas of health and how they are all connected, as well as some basic strategies for taking care of mental health. We’ll do an overview of how all areas of health are connected and different ways to care for each one. Social Media & Screen Time Thursday, July 22 from 6 - 7 pm via Zoom An opportunity to bring your concerns and thoughts around social media and screen time while exploring how lack of boundaries and communication among adults and children on this topic can affect their self-esteem and promote and/or hide bullying among peers. We’ll talk about common missed signs and how to prevent this. Time will be provided to answer questions, so feel free to bring questions and situations that you find difficult to navigate with your school-age children in the day-to-day. Coping with Stress Thursday August 19 from 6 - 7 pm via Zoom Stress, a word you probably hear more often than you would like to. During this workshop, you will get the opportunity to learn and practice 2-minute techniques that can bring balance during you most hectic days and that can easily be adapted for longer periods of time and environments. This workshop will also include how to teach your children to self-sooth and what are the most common symptoms that might seem like stress.
