  • 55+ Defensive Driving Refresher Course

    IMPORTANT NOTE! Registration for this course is not taken through Orono Community Education. For more information and to register for this course, go to mnsafetycenter.org or call TOLL FREE 1(888)-234-1294. The Driver Improvement course is a state approved accident prevention/insurance discount course that is open to the public. Pre-registration is required. A MN Highway Safety & Research Center certified instructor teaches this class. By utilizing the most up-to-date research in the field, participants will be provided the latest information in regards to driver and traffic safety, new laws, and vehicle technology. Persons ages 55 and older who complete the course qualify for a 10% discount on their auto insurance premiums for three years, according to Minnesota law. First time participants must complete the initial eight hours of training and a four hour refresher class every three years to maintain the 10% discount.

    Bicycle Repair & Maintenance - Beginner Class

    Learn basic bike set up, identification, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, how to safely check your bike, preparing a bike for selling, as well as many other helpful tips and tricks. Time will be available to fix many of the mechanical issues you are facing. Please bring your bike to class. Great value when you factor in a basic tune up!
  • Bicycle Repair & Maintenance - Intermediate Class

    This class will build from basic to more advanced. Many of your bike issues can be solved in this class! Major focus will be on identification of bicycle parts, trailside repair, shifting adjustments, brake adjustments, chain maintenance, how to repair/replace a tube (flat tire) and how to safety check your bike. We will also learn basic wheel truing, replacing a chain, how to replace brake and shifting cables. Please plan to bring a bike, especially one that needs work! Great value when you factor in a tune up!

    Canva is the perfect digital tool for beginners and novices! In this class you will learn how to create designs from scratch or use templates with step-by-step guidance for any digital image you need. This class is taught live online via ZOOM. If you are unable to attend the live online training time, you can still register and watch the recording of the training at your convenience. Follow-up support is also included.

    Instant Guitar for Hopelessly Busy People - Virtual Class

    Have you ever wanted to learn the guitar but simply find it difficult to find the time? In just a few hours, you can learn enough about playing the guitar to give you years of musical enjoyment, and you won’t have to take private lessons to do it. This course will teach basic chords and get you playing along with your favorite songs right away. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM, you will be able to sit at home with your guitar and take this class without any pressure at all. The class includes an online book, online follow-up video lessons and a recording of the class so you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional online question and answer session is also included. Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to form the three main types of chords, how to tune your guitar, basic strumming patterns, how to buy a good guitar (things to avoid) and how to play along with simple tunes. Participants ages 13-17 must have an adult guardian present during the virtual lesson.

    In just a few hours, you can learn enough secrets of the trade to give you years of musical enjoyment. Learn to play piano the way professionals do using chords. Since this class is being held online with ZOOM, you will be able to sit at your piano or keyboard at home and take this course with no pressure at all. This course includes an online book and follow up video lessons so you will be able to continue your practice and study on your own. An optional question and answer session and a recording of the class is included as well. The course is part lecture/demonstration and part hands-on instruction. Topics include: how chords work in a song, how to get more out of sheet music by reading less of it, how to form the three main types of chords, how to handle different keys and time signatures, how to avoid “counting” and how to simplify over 12,000 complex chords. Participants ages 13-17 must have an adult guardian present.

    Are you ready to tap into your natural creativity this summer? Join us for a 12 week adventure with 6 different meeting times working with the book "Conscious Creativity" by Philippa Stanton. The meetings will take place at The Vintage Storyteller, which will provide opportunities to stretch ourselves creatively through discussion and engagement with our surroundings in new ways. We will pique our curiosity and connect with our creative practice working through different chapters on looking, documenting, texture, color, the senses, atmosphere, light and composition. You will be guided on how to breathe creativity back into your life, stimulating our imagination and reinvigorating our creative lives.     Join us for 1:1 assistance with all your technology related questions. Bring your phone, laptop, ipad with you to the session. No need to pre-register - just drop in.     Your wedding day is nearing and you don’t know how to dance. Not to worry! In this single two-hour lesson you and your fiancé will be taught everything you need to know to make your first dance much more interesting than shifting awkwardly from side to side. Learn an entrance onto the dance floor, easy steps and turns that fit with most songs, and an impressive dip to end your dance!
