    Ice Skating: Beginners Age 6+

    Indoor Lessons at the Orono Ice Arena We teach fundamentals of ice skating while building confidence and skills through each lesson. The progressive curriculum ensures success from the first steps on the ice to the mastery of advanced skills. Highly Qualified USFSA trained coaching staff. Program Director, Mary Tichy is a USFSA double gold medalist (figures and freestyle) with over 25 years of skating experience and over 20 years of coaching experience. Freestyle 1 - 7 for recommended for ages 6 and up Skill Level Description Beginners: Students that need to learn the Snowplow Sam skills, but are age 6 and older. Students must be able to stand on skates independently. Children should dress warmly (jackets, hats, mittens, etc.) because the arena is cold. Students must be able to stand up on skates. Beginning skaters MUST wear helmets. Wear either leather hockey or figure skates, but please no double bladed skates. Parents are not allowed on the ice without skates. If you are wearing skates you may join your child in the practice area, but not in the lesson area. Additional lesson information will be sent out via email.

The progressive curriculum ensures success from the first steps on the ice to the mastery of advanced skills. Highly Qualified USFSA trained coaching staff. Program Director, Mary Tichy is a USFSA double gold medalist (figures and freestyle) with over 25 years of skating experience and over 20 years of coaching experience. Freestyle 1 - 7 recommended for ages 6 and up Skill Level Descriptions Skaters will be divided into levels on the first day of class. Freestyle 1: Stronger forward skating, gliding, snowplow stop Freestyle 2: Backward skating, one-foot glide, turn forward to backward, pumping on circle Freestyle 3: Two-foot turn, backward pumping on circle, forward two-foot sways What you should know before your skating lessons! Children should dress warmly (jackets, hats,mittens, etc.) because the arena is cold. Beginning skaters MUST wear helmets. Sections will be formed based on student experience and the schedule may vary due to number of students enrolled. Students wanting both Mandarin and Spanish may register for both programs on opposite days. Non-refundable Registration Deposit Fee ($50) Mondays & Wednesdays, October 1 - May 13 8:10 - 8:55 am NO CLASSES on Non-school days Language Sprout Language Sprout is the largest provider of children’s language programs in Minnesota. Instructors are trained using the latest in language acquisition research and teaching methods. All instructors have the language proficiency of an educated native speaker. Teachers advance through four learning levels before receiving Master Level teaching certification. Class size ranges from 10 - 16 students. Children will be grouped by grade level and proficiency. Returning students will be given registration preference through August 31st. Class options are subject to change based on enrollment. Check out Language Sprout at www.languagesprout.com. Fees Estimated Full year cost $848 + $50 Registration Deposit. (8 payments of $106 will be due the first of each month) The program fees include workbooks and materials.
