Discussion format and fun role-play help you understand how to use manners to your advantage. Parents are invited to participate at no additional cost.

  • Early American Fun for Kids

    In this patriotic class, we will learn about the history that led up to Independence Day - our nation’s great summer celebration! There will be fun outdoor activities like those early American kids would have played. We will learn about the Declaration of Independence, the Founding Fathers and other patriots and their daily lifestyles. Did George Washington sign the Declaration of Independence? Did he really have wooden teeth? Be in “The Room Where it Happens”!
  • Master of Suspense

    Be prepared to enter the world of drama and suspense! Alfred Hitchcock shaped modern cinema and directed so many wonderful films it is difficult to choose just four to view. After watching each film, our reviews and discussions will include Hitchcock’s camera techniques, themes and plot devices (do you know what a MacGuffin is?). We will also discuss his use of humor and his use of music and silence as a dramatic tool. We will have a daily challenge to find Hitchcock’s brief walk-on in each of his films. Popcorn will be provided - perfect for movies and suspense!
  • Spartan Day Camp

    Looking for fun, adventure and time with friends? This day camp experience is for you! Participants will engage in both outdoor games and gym time. Play giant yard games and go on a scavenger hunt in the Oliver Grieb Abbott Environmental Learning Center. There will be daily art projects and special activities as well. Join us for a fun-filled summer week. Held rain or shine!
  • Summer Playground Program - Intermediate School

    Grades K - 6 Spend the afternoon outside! Our energetic staff will guide your children through games and activities each day. The playground program is an opportunity to explore interests, gain new skills and meet new kids all in a safe and constructive environment. Attendance is not required, but once you sign up, you can come any day. Join us for active games, sports, occasional art projects and special event days. Bring a water bottle and sunscreen. *NOTES: PLAYGROUND PROGRAM Program Locations: Orono Intermediate School - 685 Old Crystal Bay Rd. N., Long Lake, MN 55356 Rainbow Park - 1500 Rainbow Avenue, Maple Plain, MN 55359 Weather: In the event of inclement weather, the program will move to indoor activities. Lunch: If your child is attending both a morning camp and the playground program, send a bag lunch to be eaten between 12 - 1 pm. Lunch time is supervised, but is intended only for students using bus transportation. No need to register for Lunch Bunch.

Participants may join us at the Orono Intermediate School on those days for indoor activities. If severe weather starts during the afternoon, we will keep children in the park shelter and you should come pick them up as soon as possible. Transportation: Free bus transportation is available to Rainbow park from the school campus for those registered for morning camps before the playground program. No registration required for bus. Lunch: If your child is attending both a morning camp and the playground program, send a bag lunch to be eaten at the park between the time of bus drop-off and 1 pm. Lunch time is supervised, but is intended only for students using bus transportation. No need to register for Lunch Bunch.

    What is a superhero versus an everyday hero? What would your superpowers be? We will explore what that means and create our own superheroes and supervillains with safe and fun fitness tests, treasure hunt for superpowers and design our own comic book stories about our heroes. Put on your cape and join us!
  • Sweet Treats - Confectionery Creations

    Explore the world of baking from scratch and create delicious treats along the way. New recipes added, including making individual fruit and chocolate-covered strawberry bouquets! Baking is a fun hands-on activity and a great way to reinforce math skills. We will learn the fundamentals of baking and how to be creative and flexible in the kitchen. Get ready for delicious fun!
  • Time Travel Adventures

    Where would you go if you could travel in time? In this camp we will explore four different eras – the Jurassic era (dinosaur excavation), the Egyptian era (finding stolen treasure with a treasure map), the Elizabethan Era (Market day, learning to juggle, Shakespeare – Huzzah!), and the future (what will that look like?). We will have outside activities each day, crafts and a lot of fun!

    Discover cooking techniques while creating delicious dishes from scratch. We will serve our healthy creations family style. We will also learn how to correctly set a table and follow protocols for preparing and presenting food. This is not a competition; it’s simply having fun while learning new skills and eating delicious food!
