    CPR, First Aid & AED

    This blended learning (online learning and in-person skills) session will help participants recognize and respond appropriately to cardiac, breathing, and first aid emergencies. Successful participants will receive a two-year Red Cross certificate for Adult and Pediatric (infant and child) CPR, First Aid and AED. Register at least 10 days prior to the in-person skills date, as time is needed to complete the online learning portion PRIOR to testing in person for the skills. This will allow you the time to complete lessons at your own pace. You will need to provide the instructor with proof of online completion in order to take part in the skills testing. Additional details regarding online learning session will be sent via email. A personal email address is required to receive class content.   • Fitness Punch Card

    Purchase a Fitness Punch Card and drop into any adult fitness class on your time and your schedule. This is the perfect option if you cannot commit to a full class or want to try multiple different types of classes. Punch cards are valid for 6 months. Purchase another card if you run out of punches! Punch cards are kept in the Activities Center Fitness Room (30 & 31). The punch card is NOT VALID for pickleball classes, aquatics programs, virtual classes, private lessons or open gyms. Senior and Activities Center Membership discounts can not be applied toward a Punch Card purchase. Please contact our office at 952-449-8350 to confirm that a class has enough enrollments to run before dropping in for the first time.

A $20 material fee, which covers glass and firing for four ornaments, is payable the night of class to the instructors. Each additional ornament will be $5. Please note: Due to the kiln-firing process, your finished ornaments will be ready for pickup the following Wednesday.

  • Fused Glass Open Studio

    Fused Glass Open Studio provides time and space to create fused glass projects for beginner and advanced participants. A facilitator will be on hand for advice and support. A $25 material fee will be collected at the studio for each new punch card. Participants are asked to bring their own glass (COE90-preferred), cutting tools and molds (sharing of materials is also an option). It is recommended that participants have taken at least one fused glass class before joining Open Studio. Punch cards have 8 punches and are valid for 12 months.

Cooking along is optional, and you’ll receive access info, a shopping list, and class details in advance. After class, registered participants will get a packet with the instructor’s personal recipes.

    Gather the whole family and have fun baking and building your own gingerbread house from scratch! You’ll make gingerbread dough to create the house pieces and whip up royal icing to “glue” and decorate with candies. A detailed packet with the ingredient list, prep instructions, a gingerbread recipe, and a printable house template will be sent before class for easy preparation. Whether starting a new tradition or continuing one, this class will leave you with a beautiful gingerbread house and sweet memories to enjoy together!

    Elevate your holiday gatherings this season with a beautifully crafted charcuterie board. Laura, from Fig and Ivy Charcuterie, will provide step-by-step guidance in the arrangement of fine cheeses, meats, and additional accompaniments. Your board will be a perfectly festive (and edible) centerpiece! Have fun with family and friends at Iron Exchange in Maple Plain. Food and beverages are available to purchase during class. A link to pay the ingredient fee of $40 will be sent out one week prior to the class. Bring home a new experience, a helpful grocery list for future boards, PLUS an artfully arranged 10” round charcuterie board (serves 5-6 people) to enjoy right away!

    Lefse

    Lefse is a Norwegian delicacy, made for banquets, holidays, weddings, and all special occasions. Making the dough, baking, storing, and of course how to serve lefse (bonus is a bit of history and humor). We will begin with real potatoes using a number of authentic recipes and a modern version using instant potatoes. Plan to sample your fresh, warm creations with traditional fillings, plus take home finished lefse and dough to bake and then share with family and friends. A $9 supply fee payable to instructor at class.

    Mile High Apple Pie

    Fall is in the air, and it's the best time to make apple pie. Nancy will take you through all the steps, from making a crust, to preparing all the filling for your pie using fresh apples. Each student will leave class with a hot apple pie to share with family and friends. Boxes will be provided. Please bring a rolling pin, if you have one. Supply Fee of $15 per student payable to the instructor in class.
  • Mosaic Small Window

    Mosaic art involves assembling small pieces of colorful fragments of glass into cohesive patterns or images. This class will provide a hands-on experience where you'll learn the fundamentals of this art form. You'll learn techniques for cutting, arranging, and adhering pieces to a small picture frame, approximately 8” x 10”. We’ll choose “cathedral” glass that will make the light come through when hung in your window at home. All tools and materials are available at our glass studio. A $20 material fee is payable to the instructor at the start of class. Children age 14 and older are welcome to register if attending with a registered adult.

  • Pickleball Advanced Play

    If you’re looking for a higher level of pickleball competition, this class is for you! There will be minimal drills in this program with some focus on the 3rd shot drop and the advantages of stacking. The majority of the time will be used for competitive play. An instructor will be present for court rotations, filling in for match play, answering questions, and providing helpful hints upon request. This group is more competitive, but still fun! This program will accommodate skill ratings of 4.0 and higher. Please visit USA Pickleball to best match a skill rating to your level of play. Please register online to reserve a spot for each month. You may register for multiple months at one time. Drop ins may be available if the space allows. Drop in rate is $10/night. *Orono Activities Center membership discounts do not apply for this program.

    Learn all about equipment, court, scoring, and rules of pickleball. Pickleball is a combination of ping-pong, badminton, and tennis, yet is much easier to learn. This class is based on practicing the essential elements of the game such as: serve, return, forehand and backhand, dink shot, and the importance of court positioning and shot selection.
  • Pickleball Skills & Drills - Intermediate

    If you are enjoying the friendly competition of pickleball, and are ready to kick it up a notch, this class is for you! Each session will open with a warm-up, a description of the “shot of the day,” and then a series of drills to practice that shot. Then, we will practice our new and improved shot in live play!
